The days of the week seem to just fly by, dear readers, and with them the promise of football is returned. In the midweek play, we saw Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern both progress into the DFB Pokal Final. The final, which is to be played on May 12th in Berlin, will be a fierce battle of the two teams which are fighting tooth and claw to claim the Bundesliga silverware. It’s a question of which team flinches by losing first, as Dortmund is still 5 points ahead of Bayern. That result won’t be apparent for us in tomorrow’s action, however, as we take a look at the Friday Fixture here on Everyone’s Favorite German Footy Blog…..
DAS BOOT!
In this Friday match, we have Hamburger SV coming to Castle Wolfenstein to play against Felix Magath’s Wolves. The Wolves devoured the lamb that was FC Nürnberg last weekend, defeating them soundly by a score of 3 – 1, while Hamburg was beaten by the same scoreline at home by relegation candidate Freiburg. It seems the euphoria in Hamburg over their coaching change with the hiring of Thorsten Fink seems to have worn off.
In a league as competitive as the Bundesliga, I can only assume that the change in tactics posed a preparation problem for teams at the beginning. The recent results, however, seem to indicate that Fink’s tactics and game plans are no longer such a secret in the Bundesliga and that a solution to his approach has been found. In this fixture, we see two highly inconsistent teams going head to head. Though there are plenty of reasons why both teams COULD win, I can’t help but think that Wolfsburg will take the match due to recent form as well as the fact that they are at home.
