How to change a light fixture | Just a Girl Blog

Trudging along trying to meet this year’s house goals has kept me busy. One of the goals is to de-boob this place. Wait…let me rephrase that. The goal is to get rid of any and all boob lights in the house. You can quit covering your eyes now.

I’m re-doing my craft room. Oops. That wasn’t on the list of goals. Don’t tell my husband. Lots of other things are going on in there, but I wanted to use the opportunity to get a new light. I found THE one at Lowes, but they only had the floor model.

Conversation at Lowes…

• Me: Okay. Well, will you sell me the floor model?
• Mr. Lowes: It’s really dusty and dirty.
• Me: Ok. So what will you take off for it?
• Mr. Lowes: I can take off 10%, but it might be a little banged up.
• Me: I’ll take it!
• Mr. Lowes: Sigh…I’ll go get a ladder then.

I’m no mathematician, but I’m pretty sure he gave me more than 10% off! Good job, Mr. Lowes! And he was right—she was a little banged up on one side, but I was totally ok with that. We’re talking a craft room here, ya know?

My father in law was coming up to help with the other stuff in the room, so I thought it would be a good time to do a tutorial on how to change out a light fixture. But then things started to go downhill. Quickly. My first several pictures were stolen from me since my FIL took down the old fixture without me knowing. Gads. Then, I realized that my 5-foot tall MIL wouldn’t be able to help my FIL hold the light fixture so I could take pictures. Double gads.

So here’s the best I have. A random picture tutorial of how to change a light fixture. Kind of like Ikea instructions!

    

These pictures were taken “blindly” with the wrong hand. I was laughing. A lot.

 

My MIL took this picture. I believe I was whining about my arm burning at this point. Then we started laughing and almost dropped the whole thing.

Aaaannd the final step. What do you mean, “Where’s the tutorial?” Weren’t you paying attention?

Well….even if you weren’t, here’s the grand finale. She’s pretty beautiful, eh?

I’m pretty much in love with it. I walk by, look at it, smile, come back, turn the light on, walk around it, leave the room, come back, turn the light off, smile at it and repeat.
