The tools you will need are:
1. Utility knife
2. Screw Driver
3. Needle nose pliers
4. Wire Strippers
5. Electrical current tester
6. Electrical tape/ wire nuts
1. The first thing you have to do is shut the power to the current fixture off. Take the fuse out or shut the breaker off to the area of the house that you will be working in.
2. Next disassemble and take the old fixture off the wall.
3. What you will have are 2 wires. A white & black. Black will always be a hot wire. While a white wire will always be neutral.
4. Strip the ends off each wire one at a time. Do the same with the light fixture wires if not already done for you.
5. Hang the cross bar up. Make sure the screw into the box in the wall and screw until snug.
6. Hook up the bare copper wire as it is a ground wire. Wrap around the green colored screw on the crossbar.
7. Next connect black-black & white- white. Be sure never to cross wire so take your time and watch what you are doing. Put a wire nut on each end twist until tight. The wrap a small piece of electrical black tape so nothing can get onto this wires.
8. Place the fixture onto the crossbar and tighten with the nuts that come complete with the fixture.
9. Next finish up by putting the lamp shades on and light bulbs in.
Go ahead and put the fuse back in or flip the breaker switch back on. Flip the switch and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Estimated time for a light fixture is 30-45 mins.
