NEWCASTLE’S Flat card on Tuesday has been cancelled after heavy rain left parts of the track waterlogged on Friday.

As a result the BHA has sanctioned a replacement all-weather fixtureat Southwell for that day.

An inch of rain has saturated Newcastle since last Saturday’s meeting and clerk of the course James Armstrong had no choice but to call the meeting off after inspecting the track on Friday morning.

“We are waterlogged and the course won’t be raceable by Tuesday,” said Armstrong.

“We are forecast another inch of rain over the weekend, which doesn’t stand us in good stead. I’d rather let people know early than mess them about.”

The BHA said that, wherever possible, similar races to those originally programmed at Newcastle have been added at Southwell. However entries for the existing races at Newcastle will not stand.
