DAS BOOT! – Match Day 32 – Friday Fixture « DAS BOOT!

Welcome back, dear readers. Our results are off to the Canadian Soccer Association to see whether or not I qualify to be registered as a match official in the Beautiful Game, and as we wait, we have the twilight of the Bundesliga season to preview for you. The picture of the final few matches of this season has sharpened, and we have a tense relegation battle to track despite the league Champion being all but confirmed to be repeat by Borussia Dortmund.

We congratule Dortmund on another stellar Bundesliga campaign while we take a look at what action will be kicking off the weekend’s football here on Everyone’s Favorite German Footy Blog…..

Mainz host Wolfsburg in the Friday fixture, as two of the hottest teams since the Winter break go head to head to help round out the Bundesliga season. Wolfsburg will be hoping for a victory as it would make a potential place in the Europa League qualification round possible. A loss would more or less condemn them to a middle of the table finish. Mainz are comfortably out of relegation, but still running strong behind the stellar play of Egyptian striker Mohammed Zidan.

A victory would definitely mean more the Felix Magath’s Wolves than it would to Mainz, but Mainz are also out to prove that last season was not a fluke and that this team intends to play well and score goals, not just in bunches, but on a consistent basis. Wolfsburg will definitely press hard, but I don’t know if they have enough in the tank to stop Mainz’s stellar form in their reach for Europa League qualification.

Mainz 2 – 1 Wolfsburg

That’s all for tomorrow’s match. Come back soon and read our take on the scintillating action that awaits us on Saturday here on Everyone’s Favorite German Footy Blog…..
