Chelsea Football Club today (Wednesday) announces a second summer game in the United States. We will play the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday 25 July at PPL Park, Philadelphia.
It will be the second time we take on a select side of the best players in the North American league, having played the All-Stars in front of a sell-out crowd in Chicago in 2006.
The news of the Philadelphia match follows an announcement last month that Chelsea will play against Seattle Sounders in Seattle on 18 July.
PPL Park, an 18,500-seat stadium opened in 2010, is the home of Philadelphia Union whose manager, Peter Nowak, a former Poland international, will be in charge of the MLS All-Stars team. Kick-off for the match will be 8.30pm ET.
Chief executive Ron Gourlay says: 'We are excited to have the chance of a re-match against the MLS All-Stars and are in no doubt it will provide a competitive fixture as we build towards the 2012/13 season, having lost narrowly in the match six years ago, with Peter Nowak the All-Stars coach that day too.
'Barclays Premier League clubs regularly take part in this fixture and it will be broadcast live on television around the world.
'The match also sees Chelsea returning to Philadelphia where we played AC Milan in 2004. There was a large crowd that evening, clearly demonstrating the enthusiasm for the sport in the city and we are looking forward to returning to the States for the sixth time in nine years.'
